Tidy JSON privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-24

Tidy JSON stores on your device, using Chrome's local extension storage (not synced to your account): your light/dark theme choice. If a version of Tidy JSON with optional Pro features is installed and you activate a license key, it also stores that key, an activation identifier, and the dates it was activated and last checked. It runs on pages you open to check whether the document is JSON, and when it is, formats it locally in your browser; the content is never copied or sent anywhere.

What we do not do

Pro license checks (only if a version with Pro is installed and you activate a key): the extension sends the key and a device label ("Tidy JSON on Chrome") to Dodo Payments' license server (live.dodopayments.com) to activate it. While a key is stored, it checks the key again with that server at most once every 24 hours. Nothing else is sent: no browsing data and no JSON content. If the server cannot be reached, the key keeps working for up to 14 days. Remove key (on the Pro page) tells the server to free the activation and deletes the key from your device.

Checkout (only if a version with Pro is installed): Pro is bought on Dodo Payments' hosted checkout page, which you choose to open from the extension, in a new tab. That page is under Dodo's own privacy policy, and the extension never sees your payment details.

Deleting your data: uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored. You can also remove a license key on the Pro page (Remove key).

Changes: any change will be posted here with a new date.
